ZDP-189 steel is made by only a few master blacksmiths worldwide and is renowned for its uncommon hardness and extreme corrosion resistance

  • ZDP-189 can be sharpened to a razor’s edge thanks to the thorough hand-forging process, and with a high hardness rating of 65 - 67 HRC it resists dulling
  • Extremely corrosion resistant steel that’s immune to rust under any normal circumstances
  • Only made by a select few masters of a specialized and traditional process

Alloy Elements Composition

  • ~3% carbon for strength
  • ~20% chromium to prevent corrosion
  • 1.5% tungsten to increase abrasion resistance
  • 1.3% molybdenum to preserve strength and power under variable temperatures
  • 0.10% vanadium to increase strength

Use & Care

  • Handwash in warm water and towel dry after every use
  • Use a sharpening stone to sharpen
  • Avoid using a honing steel — ZDP-189 is harder than honing steel, so it will actually sharpen the honing rod itself)
  • Do not cut frozen foods, meat bones, cheese, or crusty breads
  • Do not put in the dishwasher under any circumstances
