There’s a lot that goes into the sustainability of the Cabrales slipper, so we’re just going to jump right into it. All of the natural materials are from Mexico, and the manufacturing takes place there as well, cutting down on the supply chain’s environmental impact. The factory that makes the rubber soles is committed to using only natural rubber, a biodegradable and environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic rubber made from petroleum. The vulcanization process that results in the sturdy rubber soles uses local sugar cane and coconut shell refuse from local agriculture, keeping the refuse out of the landfill. Plus, the uppers are made from renewable wool and the insoles are made from recycled wool.
With all that said, IOAN didn’t overlook the comfort and utility of the shoes either. The wool makes for a breathable and versatile shoe that’s great for indoor and outdoor wear alike. Based on customer feedback, they made the foot opening a little smaller to give a snug, secure fit better suited to outdoor wear. And the rubber sole is flexible and supportive at the same time for a comfortable ride no matter where your feet take you.
