A limited-edition single recorded during Nick’s photoshoot with Forty Five

The recording session we shot with Nick Waterhouse was the real deal—we met up with him and his band at EastWest Studios in Hollywood to record the two tracks on this 45 RPM single. Since the studio opened in 1962, it’s been used by The Beach Boys, Iggy Pop, Whitney Houston, and many, many more. (It’s even where they recorded the classic Hawaii Five-O theme song.)

Heads up: this is a Pre-Sale of a limited pressing. Due to vinyl production delays caused by COVID-19, its current estimated shipping date is Nov-Dec.

  • Side A, “Monterey,” was a lost track written by Eden Ahbez, the influential songwriter who lived like a hippie in the ‘40s and wrote “Nature Boy” for Nat King Cole. The song was discovered when a few studio test pressings were found at a garage sale around the year 2000. To Nick, it was the perfect song to record at EastWest. When we sat down with him for our interview, he said, “What I was trying to do was take this song that exists, but that never existed, and treat it like Ahbez gave it to me today because this is the kind of studio where he would do it.”
  • Side B, “Straight Love Affair,” is an original song by Nick that he wrote with the tracks on his latest album, Promenade Blue.
  • Both tracks recorded live in EastWest Studio 2, Hollywood, CA—on April 1st, 2021
  • Comes packaged in a paper sleeve like classic 45s
