World’s coolest butcher shop?

Talk about a holistic transformation.

With the help of the Japanese design team Design Eight, a 60-year-old butcher shop in old town Kamakura was recently renovated and brought into the 21st century, garnering international acclaim and design awards along the way.

A point of emphasis of the design was to highlight the craft of the butcher, and his selection of meats.

Limited by minimal floor space, the designers utilized atmospheric lighting, top quality wood and metal fixtures, and a vertical display case for the meat so that multiple patrons could browse at once (conventional Japanese shops display the meat under the counter which limits viewing to one person at a time).

If we ever find ourselves in Kamakura, you can be rest assured we'll be swinging by to pick up some Kobe beef and snap some Instagrams (amiright?).
