A Proper River Rafting Excursion

River rafting is in our DNA here at Huckberry. For us, few things beat a lazy day on the river with a case of ice cold beer silently perspiring on the bottom of our canoe as we drift idly with our arms crossed, eyes shut, and hat tipped. It doesn’t get any better than that, or does it?
Vildmark, an outdoor travel outfitter based in Torsby, Sweden, takes river rafting to the next level, offering self-guided trips down the Klarälven River (Clear River) on river rafts of your own construction. The 5-8 day excursions are incredibly hands on, and begin as you corral logs from the river, which for over 400 years was used to transport timber. Next, your instructor will show how to properly lash the logs together and build a freestanding tent for shelter. Finally, after a brief river course, you and your motley crue of friends, dogs, mountain bikes, and fishing rods will be set adrift in a ceremony befitting of a Roman funeral.
Since the river’s current is no faster than the speed of a brisk walk, the trip provides ample opportunities to fish, drag your feet in the water, or catch a snooze in the lean-to. At the conclusion of your trip, you simply unlash the logs in your raft and return them to the river, a place where they, and as you’ve come to realize, you, belong.
