The image of the Swiss Alps is iconic. Tall snowy mountains, lush green hills and The Sound of Music. The hills of the village of Vals are alive with something a little bit different: an innovative design project located 1250 meters high combining the image of The Shire with a modern architectural aesthetic that best of all, is available for rent.

Architects from firms CMA and SeARCH have constructed a striking and stylish house that makes careful use of its surrounding hillside landscape by building right into it. The house may be hard to spot, but from the inside offers unobstructed views of the Alpine Peaks.

Produced in a collaborative effort between several Dutch designers involved in the design of the home as well as its interior design and furnishings, Villa Vals is eclectic and modern while highlighting elements of Dutch design. The surrounding village of Vals boasts a system of small-scale sustainability, creating a village-wide structure of harmony set against a charming and rustic background.

The Villa Vals as well as the village of Vals is open to visitors year round looking for mountainscapes, skiing, or spas in an underrated European village.
